New Orleans – saying hello

Tags: new orleans Add comments

Hello Everyone ;) New Orleans is very cute and I love the French Quarter. I haven’t seen too many signs of the devestation from Katrina but I would assume that the areas I am in – tourist areas would be the first to be built back up. I don’t have Internet access so this is all through my iPhone. I hope all of you had a good weekend and have a good week. :)

From what I’ve heard the French Quarter was cleaning up before Rita struck and they were all back in business within a month. I’m glad about that, it’s nice that they can bounce back so quickly.

I hope your conference is going well and that you’re having loads of fun… go eat some good Creole food (it isn’t as spicy as Cajun) and bring us back some great pictures!!!

Well, we went to Mississippi about 8 months after the Hurricane struck. We did go visit New Orleans for one day. And I think all the things you saw on the news were from some other parts of the city (especially the parts that were below sea level – which the French Quarter is not). Even then at 8 months later the French Quarter hardly looked like it had been touched. Some of the shop people said they were without power and drinking water for quite awhile, but from what I could see and hear there was no major damage there. The eye of the storm actually hit about 100 miles east… and it was a sight to behold. Everything that was within half a mile of the beach was GONE. That’s where the most damage occurred and yet the media has focused so heavily on New Orleans no one really realized that. Pretty sad actually.

Oooh, I love New Orleans. Was there for the first time for a bachelorette party last October and it was craaaaazy.

I’ll be spending a week there later this month for a convention and I can’t wait!!! Too much fried food though. Oh man, have you had a Muffaletta? You have to go to the place famous for them…I forget the name but it is basically across the street from Cafe Du Monde if my memory is correct. Ask someone on the street ;)

You have an iPhone? Jealousy, thy name is Carmen. I’ve got the iTouch though.

Yeah, the French Quarter wasn’t badly hit in Katrina (flooding, yes, but not as bad as the other districts) and it’s the tourist mecca, so it was up and running in days.

Oooooooh!! My favorite city! You just missed Jazzfest – or did you get there over the weekend and catch it a bit? Be sure to visit Cafe Du Monde for beneigts and cafe au lait. Hit Tipitina’s one night for some great local talent. Have some crawfish boil for me. :) Visit the aquarium. Ride the St Charles streetcar. Take the free ferry across the river to Algiers. :) sigh . . . .I wish I was there!

I’d been in New Orleans back in the 80′s and just loved that French Quarter.
Sounds like you had a nice time there.
